bedMATE du mois #10 : Romy Boomsma

Every month we visit a creative, colorful and inspiring person. She or he is the ' bedMATE of the month'.

The bedMATE is the most iconic item in our collection. The extra long cushion serves as a headboard , but also as a cuddle buddy, a friend who provides support.

We crawl into bed with the 'bedMATE of the month. We take a look at their home and their colorful bedroom. In conversation we discover how they experience the SUITE life . What's going on in their heads? Where do they get their inspiration from? What color do they dream in?

This month, all-round creative Nicole Huisman visited Romy Boomsma, who is living her dream life on the farm.

Romy says:

'I grew up in very colorful houses. With a lot of art, images, wallpaper, antiques, velvet, linen, prints, warm colors and golden taps. So it was actually kind of spoon-fed to me and my parental home looked like a film set, or a theater,' says Romy. 'For me, color has been part of a feeling of home from an early age.'

Anyone who scrolls around on Romy's Instagram page immediately feels like adding color to his or her closet and interior. Romy's warm, cozy pallet with a boho edge feels rich and cozy, you want to crawl into it. 'Our house now is a farm from 1784 and there are actually parts of the farm that are still that old. I find that so special, how many people have walked the same stairs over the centuries as we do now. It is wonderful to live here and very quickly felt like home. We have not renovated anything, but we have added color everywhere. As a result, it immediately felt at home when we moved as 'our' place.

Anyone who follows Romy has not missed it (it must have made a wishlist): Romy's ceramics. 'Oh, I think this is the most amazing discovery in years! It's like I can now express the creativity I have in my head through my hands. And not just inventing it, but actually making it. Such a wonderful feeling. It's hand-forming what I do, I get inspiration everywhere and nowhere today and since I have my own oven in the yard I like it even more.'

Romy currently fills her days with mothering, influencing, designing, reading a lot, ceramics, farm life and enjoying the fact that all her passions come together. 'That work gives me energy, my hobbies give me peace and family life here on the farm is extremely fulfilling.'

Claying, drying, firing, glazing, firing - Romy doesn't turn her hand around for it. "It teaches me to be less impatient and to enjoy the whole process more, rather than just the finished product."

Romy once followed a goldsmith course, but this did not give her the same satisfaction as ceramics. But she thinks designing jewelry is fantastic - this results in various jewelry collections for Anna + Nina, of which Romy is very proud. 'The match with Anna and Nina is such a good one. They are great and we feel each other completely, in January we will open our first piercing shop together and launch our first line of self-designed piercings!

Romy went for a warm autumn palette in bed. 'Linen, a mix of dark and light colours. Brown and various shades of pink that come back in the wallpaper. I want a bedroom to feel like a nest. With color, but also that it feels like a unity, which gives it peace.'
